When you see the numbers on the scale climbing and you feel out of breath going up a flight of stairs, you realize and admit that yes, you’re out of shape. It could be age, food choices, a sedentary lifestyle, or a combination of all three that’s making you gain weight and feel unhealthy. While it is true that weight isn’t always the culprit, most of the time it is.

The sad truth is that sitting in front of the computer all day can make you gain extra pounds and also make you more prone to lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Cholesterol level also goes up when you sit too much and don’t move for hours, not to mention the problems that develop when your circulation is cut off. These could all lead to serious problems in the end.

The good news is it’s not too late to do something about it. You may be too busy to work out at home, but there are proactive steps you can take to make yourself more active even while you deal with a busy and demanding career life. Try to walk more by parking your car farther from your office building. This will give you a good 10 or 15 minute walk to and from your car.

Additionally, doing exercises while on your desk will also improve your circulation. You can try stretching your arms and legs while in a seated position and do some curls and stretches while standing up. While you’re at it shake your hands and gently roll your head to get the kinks out of your neck and shoulders.
